With attention, openness and with a mountain of experience, we will guide you from ultrasound to delivery. For more than 75 years, your gut feeling has been our starting point. Not coincidentally, because Frieda Struyk who founded Bolwerk midwives was sheltering single mothers in her own home. Along with Marja Brakman and Josseline Dahler, she was the “treasure trove of experience,” which we had in our laps. Now we are happy to put our experience to work for you!

Who are we?
When I was 13 years old, I was allowed to be present at the birth of my youngest brother, Moos. This wonderful event made me realize ‘Wow! You can actually do this for a job!’
I was born in 1983 at this practice with the help of my former colleague Marja. In 2009, I graduated from the Midwifery Academy in Amsterdam. From then on, I started working for Bolwerk and never left.
Midwifery to me is a craft. I continue to learn through the variety of people and the course of their pregnancy, labor and birth of a new human being.

During pregnancy, you will visit us an average of 8 to 10 times for check-ups and we are available to you 24/7.
Delivery
Your child’s birthday is probably the most special day of your life. We are there to guide the delivery as best we can.
Maternity
The maternity period is an intense and impressive time, especially with your first child. Recovery and care go hand in hand. But you don’t have to do that all by yourself.
Child Wish
Do you have a desire to have children and want to know about it? Then come to our childwish consultation. We are happy to make space for questions around pregnancy.
Contraception
Advice on the pill or IUD placement and removal? For this you can also come to us after your delivery.

Bolwerk is a big name in Haarlem and the surrounding areas. The practice at Staten Bolwerk 8 in Haarlem was, for many of the current midwives, their first internship. Practical, due to the proximity to the train station, but mainly because of the wealth of experience within the team.
If you live in Haarlem, Overveen, Bloemendaal, Heemstede, Aerdenhout, Santpoort, Spaarndam, Vijfhuizen or Zandvoort, then the team at Bolwerk midwives is ready for you.
And, of course, we are also just very ‘gezellig’.
